After the Pope’s death, his ring (called the Fisherman’s Ring) is removed and destroyed
Scenario
When Cardinal Lawrence is assigned the task of presiding over one of the world’s most secret and oldest events – the election of a new Pope – he finds himself at the center of a conspiracy that could shake the very foundations of the Catholic Church. Lawrence and the other cardinals who undertake during the conclave process in the film are faithful and true to the Catholic faith and centuries-old tradition. The Vatican makes an official announcement that the throne of the Holy See (the governing body of the Catholic Church) is vacant. In fact, the papal apartment is closed off with a red ribbon and sealed with a wax papal seal.

In fact, the College of Cardinals is secluded in apartments (called Domus Sanctae Marthae or House of Saint Martha in real life) to eat and sleep between votes. Finally, the windows and doors of the Sistine Chapel, where elections are held and votes are cast, are indeed blacked out, closed, and locked to preserve the secrecy of the conclave. The Roman Catholic Church has had three African popes: Victor I (189-199 AD), Miltiades (aka Melchiades, 311-314 AD), and Gelasius I (492-496 AD). Sister Agnes: Although we sisters are supposed to be invisible, God has given us eyes and ears.
But then, sadly, came the ending

I have just returned from the cinema after watching “Conclave” a film that I was very moved by and thoroughly enjoyed. For most of the film I was so impressed by the gorgeous cinematography, fantastic performances, excellent soundtrack and quality of costumes and production design that I was convinced this had to be a 10/10 film.
What will you leave the audience with?
I think the ending of a film is the most important part. What is your final statement to them? Well, it is so contrived, confusing and absurd in this film that every final statement becomes confusing and I left the cinema with a bad taste in my mouth. The ending is so unreal that it threatens to destroy every frame of the previous one.
This is only done to make a statement about the church and to shock the audience
Now, this doesn’t ruin the movie as a whole (at least not for me), but it unfortunately does tarnish an otherwise excellent film.
